Abstract

The Cil is a local group of the Co ho ethnic in Lam Dong province. In the past, the Cil group’s economy was mainly based on dry rice cultivation with slash-and-burn technique. During the cycle of agriculture, the Cil people had many religious ceremonies in accordance to each period of cultivation. There were ceremonies for selecting soil, clearing fields, planting rice and harvesting crops. These rites reflected the traditional culture and spiritual life of the inhabitants living on the upland region for a long time. However, these have been changing due to the change of the economy, culture and society of the Cil group. This article describes the Cil’s traditional rites, based on fieldwork data in Da Long commune, Dam Rong district, Lam Dong province.
