Tanshinone IIA was isolated from the roots of Salvia miltiorrhiza for working reference standard. The method of isolation includes the extraction of the lipophillic components from the roots powder by n-hexane, the isolation of tanshinone IIA by silica gel column chromatography and purification of the compound by re-crystallisation. The compound was identified by its IR, NMR and Msspectra. The purity of the isolated compound were determined by HPLC to be more than 95%.Metrics
